Southview
East, Calgary
An established and mature neighbourhood bordered by the Bow River.
This quiet and tranquil community was the final stage of development within the Greater Forest Lawn Area.
Southview is located in Calgary’s eastern quadrant, almost directly across from the city’s downtown core. Some of the homes in the area enjoy an unspoiled view of Downtown and the Rocky Mountains. As with many well-established communities in the area, Southview boasts lots of open green spaces and parks. The community is also in close proximity to major landmarks like St. George Island, St. Patrick Island, Inglewood Wildlands and the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary.
Location and Accessibility
Southview is located in the east region of Calgary. The community is bordered by:
- North: 17th Avenue SE
- South: 26th Avenue SE
- East: 36th Street SE
- West: Bow River
Southview is well-connected through major routes like 17 Avenue SE and Memorial Drive, which facilitate travel to other parts of the city.
Education and Healthcare

Amenities
The neighborhood has several green spaces and parks, including playgrounds and sports fields, which provide areas for outdoor activities and family gatherings.
Located just to the east of the neighborhood, Elliston Park features walking trails, a lake, and picnic areas. It is also the site of GlobalFest, an annual cultural festival and fireworks competition.
In addition to its local parks, Southview is close to several recreational facilities. The Bob Bahan Aquatic & Fitness Centre and the Ernie Starr Arena are nearby, offering swimming, fitness classes, and ice skating. Inglewood Golf and Curling Club is just across the Bow River. This picturesque golf course is a semi-private golf course is located just southeast of the neighborhood and offers a scenic golfing experience along the Bow River.
Despite its size, the Southview Community Association is active and supports its residents. The community has many events and works with the city of Calgary to plan bigger events throughout the year. The association organizes a variety of events and it maintains an outdoor skating rink.

The neighborhood features several convenience stores, grocery stores, and small businesses that cater to everyday needs.
Just north of the neighbourhood is International Avenue on 17th Avenue. This popular commercial corridor, known as International Avenue, is known for its diverse array of shops, restaurants, and services. Residents can find everything from grocery stores and convenience shops to international cuisine and local eateries.
Marlborough Mall is only minutes away and offers a variety of shops, services and big box stores like Home Depot, Walmart and many more. There are also great restaurants nearby, and with all of these close by amenities you’ll never have to stray far to find everything you need.
